Noordwijkerhout is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands. The town is in the bulb growing region of the Netherlands, well-known for its tulips. Just 5 kilometer from the North Sea, Noordwijkerhout provides access to the beach and hiking opportunities through the dunes.
Agriculture and livestock farming were important means of livelihood throughout the centuries. There were only 30 or 40 houses around the White Church and about 80 houses throughout the whole Municipality for many years. This all changed in the second half of the 19th century, when a start was made on digging up the inland dunes. The rolling grasslands made way for the stretched-out tulip fields, which gave the landscape a very multi-colored sight that is still found today.
Objects of Art have been placed at several places in the Municipality. In particular the three statues by the artistic couple Frans and Truus van der Veld can be admired. The most important source of inspiration is the love for cultivating flowers, which the Municipality of Noordwijkerhout is deservedly famous for.
The Municipality of Noordwijkerhout is in the ‘Heart of the Tulip Fields’. It is a beautiful county district where you can still find the peace and beauty of Nature in the middle of the industrious West of Holland. When the bulb fields are in bloom, this region is one of the most colorful in the world. Keukenhof Park, also known as the Garden of Europe, attracts 700,000 visitors every year. The combination of flowers, windmills, quaint villages and Dutch charm is irresistible. The people in this area are in the flower business and make no apologies for it.

Climate in Noordwijkerhout
Once close to the sea, the low elevation and the presence of numerous sluggish rivers and canals impose uniformity on the climate of the country, so there are very small differences from place to place. Rainfall is well distributed over the year, but tends to fall on fewer days in summer and to be heavier. Average daily sunshine amounts range from about two hours in January to between seven and eight hours in June.
